Automated Meter Reading
| |||
This Spring of 2002, DCWASA begins the process of changing all meters currently in our system to a fixed network, radio technology system. Within three years, all 125,000 water meters will be replaced with new state-of-the-art technology that will allow us to get actual reads from your meter without dispatching meter reading personnel to your home. Unlike the old system, which sometimes depended on estimated readings, our new AMR system will assure virtually 100% accuracy every month. Best of all, the new AMR technology will be fully integrated with our Customer Billing and Information System. This means you will have the ability to retrieve daily meter readings and water usage information through our website and our Interactive Voice Response (IVR) phone system (202-354-3600). You will also be able to quickly and easily resolve many of the questions about your bill that now takes so much time to answer. The new AMR system will be able to detect meter malfunctioning, tampering and vandalisms as well as instantly alert us to the theft of water from disconnected accounts. These improvements to our operating systems translate to better service for you, our valued customer. As we complete the installation of the AMR system and meter change-out in each area over the next three years, we will begin to bill you once a month instead of once every three months. Thanks to timely information, you'll be better able to manage your water expenses. Customers will receive details about this major project in the mail. We also have answers to frequently asked questions regarding AMR. |
