David J. Byrd
Principal, Prince George's County

David J. Byrd was appointed Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Governmental Operations and Environmental Services for Prince George's County in April 2006. Mr. Byrd's responsibilities include most of the major county agencies that provide front line services to county residents.

In November 2003, Mr. Byrd started Byrd's Eye, LLC, a government relations and political consulting firm that offered strategic advice, analysis, and advocacy on business development and political entrepreneurship. Prior to starting his own business, he served as Chief of Staff to Maryland Lt. Governor Michael S. Steele. In addition to the day-to-day operations, Mr. Byrd served as the Lt. Governor's principal advisor and provided strategic planning, development, and execution of his portfolio. Mr. Byrd has also worked for several prestigious organizations including the Social Security Administration and the New Jersey State Government.

Mr. Byrd, who has 20 years of experience as an executive in the public and private sectors, also has an extensive background in government relations, political program development, external affairs, strategic planning, procurement reform, fiscal oversight and vendor management.

In addition, Mr. Byrd led two trade missions to South Africa, securing over $400 million in contract awards for New Jersey businesses.

Mr. Byrd has a bachelor's degree in English and Journalism from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware Ohio and a master's degree in Corporate Public Relations from Rowan University (formerly known as Glassboro State College).
