Daniel M. Tangherlini
Principal, District of Columbia
Dan Tangherlini serves as City Administrator/Deputy Mayor for the District
of Columbia, with responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of
the District. Tangherlini most recently served as the Interim General
Manager of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA).
Prior to his service with WMATA, he served as the Director of the District
of Columbia Department of Transportation from June 2000 to February 2006 and
the Chief Financial Officer of the Metropolitan Police Department from
November 1998 to May 2000.
In the Executive Office of the Mayor, Mr. Tangherlini was the leader of a
short-term action team from January to April 1999 that developed
high-visibility, short-term initiatives for District of Columbia Mayor Anthony
Williams. Before joining the District Government, Tangherlini was a senior
program analyst in the Policy Office of the U.S. Secretary of Transportation
and a program examiner with the Office of Management and Budget in the
Executive Office of the President.
Tangherlini received his bachelor.s and master's degrees in public policy
from the University of Chicago, as well as a master's in business
administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
