Types of Purchases

In support of DCWASA's mission to provide safe and reliable drinking water, sewage collection and wastewater treatment to its customers in an efficient and economical manner, DCWASA has hundreds of contracts in place for construction, engineering, and goods and services. DCWASA is in the early stages of its $1.6 billion Capital Improvement Program that addresses infrastructure repairs and modernization of facilities and processes for treating and transporting biosolids and various electrical projects. Construction, architecture and engineering contracts range from $100 thousand to $100 million. They include projects related to maintenance, repair and upgrades to the plant as well as for projects involving sewage, stormwater, water storage and water distribution systems. The contracts range from design work to sewer cleaning and lining to eliminating dead-ends, repair and replacement of water mains, fire hydrants, valves, cleaning and lining sedimentation basins, treating and transporting biosolids and various electrical projects.

DCWASA has more than 300 goods and services contracts and over 2,000 purchase orders in place worth about $100 million. Other contracting opportunities at DCWASA include: training, printing, professional studies, transportation & hauling, equipment maintenance, advertising, legal services and consultant services.

DCWASA employs every reasonable effort to ensure full and equitable opportunities for Local, Small and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (LSDBE's) to participate as prime contractors, subcontractors, and joint venture partners in contracts awarded by DCWASA. Utilizing such efforts to achieve this mission will promote the economy of the District of Columbia and the region served by DCWASA.
