The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DCWASA) issues its own permits for activities directly related to the public water and sewerage systems and also provides input to permits issued by the District of Columbia. All residents, private companies and government agencies must obtain DCWASA permits when doing work associated with the public water and sewerage systems.

For assistance in obtaining permits:

More complex permit applications are handled at the Documents and Permits Office, Parking Lot before second Security Gate, Blue Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant, 5000 Overlook Avenue, SW. See map and driving directions.

DCWASA charges fees for various types of services. Review the fee schedule.

The Documents and Permits office at DCWASA also provides records of the public water mains and sewers within the city. These records can be helpful for you to obtain permits for certain projects. You can obtain copies of non-secure records for a fee at the Documents and Permits Office, Parking Lot before second Security Gate, Blue Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant, 5000 Overlook Avenue, SW. See map and driving directions.
