DC Water and Sewer Authority

DC WASA works with many environmental partners and the D.C. community to educate and help citizens protect our environment. The following are just a few examples of our ongoing activities.

• We presented an educational video on water preservation at the 16th Annual Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital. The video, "It;s Your Water—Use It Wisely," was followed by discussions on water conservation at the festival and local D.C. public libraries.
• We participated in the District's version of National Earth Day, called GreenDC Week, with a daylong conservation exhibit at Freedom Plaza focusing on environmental issues and conservation.
• We participated in the Ward 8 Cleanup kickoff event and supervised and instructed volunteers on standards for fire hydrant painting.

As part of our ongoing efforts, DC WASA works with several environmental groups, including:

• DC WASA Partners with EPA's WaterSense® Program: In partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) WaterSense program, DC WASA will help consumers conserve water by offering simple ways to reduce water use through water-efficient product choices and water-saving practices.
• The District of Columbia Environmental Education Consortium (DCEEC): A network of teachers, D.C. schools, environmental education providers, and supporters from businesses, universities, and the political arena, DCEEC connects D.C. teachers with environmental education opportunities available to them and their students, including environmental resource expertise, educator workshops, accredited courses, and more.
• Alice Ferguson Foundation (AFF): The AFF provides experiences that encourage connections between people, the natural environment, farming, and the cultural heritage of the Potomac River Watershed, which lead to personal environmental responsibility.
• Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS): DC WASA participates in the yearly AWS river clean up by providing trash dumpsters and a skimmer boat. The AWS's mission is to restore and protect the Anacostia River and its watershed by cleaning the water, recovering the shores, and honoring the river's heritage.
• District Department of the Environment (DDOE): The DDOE's mission is to conserve the soil and water resources of the District of Columbia and to protect our watersheds from pollution through education, restoration, regulation, and conservation.
• The Friends of Rock Creek's Environment (FORCE): FORCE works to promote a healthy and sustainable Rock Creek watershed through conservation, education, and restoration. FORCE brings residents, business owners, and government together to implement solutions that make the watershed healthy again. Activities include stream cleanups, tree plantings, storm drain markings, and sustainable on-site management of rainwater.
