Description of Duties:This is the entry level for professional work. Performs assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.  Performs engineering design calculations, and monitors projects or field operations under the supervision of a higher level engineer.  Assists in the development of consultant engineer scope of work for project designs plant operations, maintenance operations and other field operations.  Assists in reviewing consultant designs and contractor submittals under the direct supervision of a higher level engineer.  Observes and inspects construction projects to alert higher level engineers of problems requiring solution.  Assists in preparing change orders for consultant and construction contracts under the direct supervision of higher level engineers. Performs other in-office and field entry-level mechanical engineering tasks as needed.  Prepares reports and related correspondence.  Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or an ABET equivalent and 1 to 2 years or related experience.  Must posses and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License and a DC WASA Vehicle Endorsement.  Knowledge of engineering practices and principals.  Skill in producing coherent, well organized written material.
Other Requirements:
  • In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • First time supervisors and all new D.C. Water and Sewer Authority employees will serve a one (1) year probationary period regardless of prior governmental affiliation.
