Description of Duties:Operates front end loader to transfer earth, broken pavement, etc., from ground level to truck or to backfill excavation. Loads sand, salt, gavel, etc. Operates loader in connection to snow removal program. Operates backhoe to excavate the ground fro repair, replacement and maintenance activities associated with mains, fire hydrants, valves, etc. Operates construction equipment to lift materials, such as pipes, plates, fire hydrants, valves, fittings, etc. Exercises extreme caution to avoid any damages to underground utility lines, overhead wires, and nearby properties. When not operating equipment, provides manual work assistance to the crew in the completion so work. Assists crews in clean up. Directs traffic when needed. Performs minor maintenance on equipment. This include performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections and taking corrective actions. Performs routine maintenance such as lubrication, securing hydraulic and mechanical connections, cleaning and spot painting equipment, and replenishing fuel. performs other related duties as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and (4) years of experiences that involves the operation of gasoline, diesel, or other powered engine equipment designed for excavation, lifting and hauling. Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s Permit, commercial Driver’s License (Class B), D.C. Operating Engineer’s License Class 7B and Class 7D, and a DC WASA Vehicle Endorsement. Skill test required.
Other Requirements:
  • In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • First time supervisors and all new D.C. Water and Sewer Authority employees will serve a one (1) year probationary period regardless of prior governmental affiliation.
  • Incumbent serves as an essential employee, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the Authority has closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
  • Skill test required.
  • Applicant must present a copy of current "Medical Examiner's Certificate" when presenting CDL.
  • The Authority shall, pursuant to the driver's written authorization, inquire from previous employer(s) during the preceding two (2) years about alcohol test results of 0.04 or greater, verified positive controlled substances test results and refusals to be tested.
  • Incumbent is required to work on rotating shifts
