Description of Duties:This is the entry level for professional work.  Performs assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.  Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Responsible for coordinating work with higher level engineers.  Conducts investigations of materials and methods of construction.   Prepares engineering and planning studies, designs and estimates for area of work assigned under the supervision of a higher level engineer.  Develops technical data regarding materials sizes, dimensions, quantities and costs to be incorporated in formal specifications.  Develops long and short term programs for the construction or repair of facilities in the DCWASA.  Assists in reviewing consultant designs and contractor submittals under the direct supervision of a higher graded engineer.  Assists in preparing change orders for consultants and construction contracts.  Performs other in-office and field entry-level civil engineering tasks as needed.  Prepares reports and related correspondence.. Compiles with applicable safety rules and regulations.  Performs other related duties and projects at the discretion of the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or an ABET equivalent; and zero (0) to one (1)  year of experience preferably in a water and sewer utility or industrial environment.  Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s Permit and a DC WASA Vehicle Endorsement.  Knowledge of engineering practices and principles.  Skill in producing coherent, well organized, written material.
Other Requirements:
  • In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • First time supervisors and all new D.C. Water and Sewer Authority employees will serve a one (1) year probationary period regardless of prior governmental affiliation.
