Description of Duties:Serves as the chief of a 2-person crew or Journeyman worker of a larger Sewer Services crew. Builds catch basins and installs sewer pipelines. Investigates sewer complaints. Operates sewer cleaning/maintenance equipment. Performs preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and cleaning of the trucks and equipment. Prepares regular and special reports. Cleans catch basins, sewers, manholes and stream inlets and outlets. Maintains Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) structures. Provides guidance and assistance to lower graded employees. Ensures compliance with applicable safety rules and regulations. Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) and must possess 3 years of progressive experience and expected to have knowledge of all sections and functions in the Sewer Department or 3 years of demonstrated experience involving different areas within a Sewer or Water Department. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with an N endorsement.
Other Requirements:
  • In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • First time supervisors and all new D.C. Water and Sewer Authority employees will serve a one (1) year probationary period regardless of prior governmental affiliation.
  • Applicant must present a copy of current "Medical Examiner's Certificate" when presenting CDL.
  • The Authority shall, pursuant to the driver's written authorization, inquire from previous employer(s) during the preceding two (2) years about alcohol test results of 0.04 or greater, verified positive controlled substances test results and refusals to be tested.
  • Incumbent must posses a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's permit and may be required to obtain an Authority permit to operate a motor vehicle
  • Incumbent is considered an essential employee and is subject to being placed on call during hours and schdules identified by the Authority
