Description of Duties:Responsible for performing various functions as they pertain to the collection of delinquent water and sewer accounts.  Acts as Authority representative at administrative hearings and performs appropriate action based on decision rendered by hearing examiner.  Prepares various business letters to customers advising of collection intent or resolution.  Reviews and analyzes delinquent accounts for appropriate legal action.  Reports unusual collection issues to the supervisor for guidance in appropriate resolution.  Initiates proper collection activities on accounts allowable by law.  Reviews and prepares bankruptcy and probate documents for collection.  Calculates, prorates, and adjusts water and sewer bills and establishes payment terms for  customers.  Verifies the accuracy of the cash receipts reconciliation and the customer refund process.  Compiles various monthly reports to include spreadsheets utilizing applicable software.  Utilizes superior verbal and written communication skills as a part of interaction with customers.  Utilizes personal computer and maintains a working knowledge of applicable software programs (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of customer service experience in a credit collection environment.  Excellent analytical skills, detail oriented.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills.  Utilizes personal computer and maintains a working knowledge of applicable software programs (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.).  Ability to handle a fast paced environment.  Ability to work flexible hours.
Other Requirements:
  • In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • First time supervisors and all new D.C. Water and Sewer Authority employees will serve a one (1) year probationary period regardless of prior governmental affiliation.
  • Skill test required.
