Description of Duties:The incumbent plans, directs, and coordinates work assignments. Oversees the uninterrupted delivery of water and manning of all watches. Revises schedules as necessary. Initiates work orders for maintenance and develops good working relationship with maintenance staff. Coordinates the departmental pumping operational activities with the Army Corps of Engineer’s Washington Aqueduct’s Division. Prepares daily log of operations, reports, and assists in the preparation of monthly operational reports. Estimates quantities of supplies, materials and equipment needed to carry out maintenance and repair activities, either by internal forces or by contractors. Resolves personnel and contractual issues. Reviews and recommends initiation of projects for modernization and expansion of water pumping facilities and equipment. Supervises inspection personnel to ensure that all departmental pumping and reservoir facilities in the District are adequately operated and maintained. Plans and administers in the selection, assignment, supervision, promotion, discipline, and training of assigned personnel. Handles emergency situations when the arise. Ensures station valves and hydraulic/electric systems are exercised and functional. Supervises flushing of station hydraulic control systems. Monitors and reports exercising and flushing activities. Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Manager, Pumping.
Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) and three (3) years of supervisory experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and a D.C. WASA Vehicle Endorsement.
Other Requirements:
  • In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • First time supervisors and all new D.C. Water and Sewer Authority employees will serve a one (1) year probationary period regardless of prior governmental affiliation.
  • Incumbent serves as an essential employee, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the Authority has closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
  • Incumbent must posses a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's permit and may be required to obtain an Authority permit to operate a motor vehicle
