Description of Duties:
Serves as the truck driver/VAC operator, operates truck with mounted crane. May operate truck to tow trailer with mounted equipment. Picks up and removes sewage screenings from pumping stations. Cleans wet wells and screen rooms. Ensures the proper operation, collection and transport of sewage/storm water to their disposal point at Blue Plains and various storm water and combined sewer overflow outfalls along the Potomac and Anacostia rivers and their tributaries. Cleans Swirl facility and related sites, and catch basins. Sets up and maintains equipment for cleaning wet wells and sewers. Checks and cleans meter sites. Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations. Prepares daily and special reports. Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) and three (3) years of progressive experience and expected to have knowledge of all sections and functions in the Sewer Services Department or three (3) years of demonstrated experience involving different areas within Sewer Services or Water Services Department. Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s Permit, a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with N endorsement, and a DC WASA Vehicle Endorsement to operate Authority vehicles.
Other Requirements:
In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
First time supervisors and all new D.C. Water and Sewer Authority employees will serve a one (1) year probationary period regardless of prior governmental affiliation.
Incumbent is subject to 24-hour emergency call and may be required to work overtime during emergencies.
Incumbent serves as an essential employee, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the Authority has closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
Applicant must present a copy of current "Medical Examiner's Certificate" when presenting CDL.
The Authority shall, pursuant to the driver's written authorization, inquire from previous employer(s) during the preceding two (2) years about alcohol test results of 0.04 or greater, verified positive controlled substances test results and refusals to be tested.
Incumbent must posses a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's permit and may be required to obtain an Authority permit to operate a motor vehicle
