The D.C. Water and Sewer Authority (WASA), is committed to supplying residences and businesses throughout the District of Columbia with safe drinking water. Water samples are taken and analyzed daily to ensure compliance with safe drinking water regulations.
To enhance the drinking water quality, annually WASA conducts a Flushing
Program to systematically "flush" water mains in the distribution
system. The water is released by sequentially opening the District's
8,700 fire hydrants and flushing water in a unidirectional manner. Flushing water through the pipes at high velocities removes buildup that can cause discolored water problems. Routine maintenance is also performed on the valves and hydrants as they are opened.
This year the Flushing Program begins on March 16th 2008 and will continue through November 2008, Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. WASA water quality crews will be working in your neighborhoods at different intervals throughout the Program period.
Following is a table showing the boundary streets scheduled for flushing the weeks of
March 16th 2008 — April 4th 2008. Please understand that the schedule is an estimate.
Emails received after 5:00pm Monday through Friday will be answered the next business day. Media inquires should be made to the DCWASA Office of Public Affairs at 202-787-2200.
