What We Do
Crosstown Water Tunnel
The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority recently discovered a leak coming from the 2.5 mile-long Crosstown Water Tunnel, which is a portion of the Crosstown Water Main. The 7-foot-diameter tunnel extends from Foxhall Road, NW to Scott Circle, NW, generally running under the NW section of N St and Rock Creek Park and Parkway.
DC WASA will be visually inspecting the tunnel by accessing it at three locations: Scott Circle, NW; 25th and N Sts, NW; and Foxhall Road and MacArthur Blvd, NW. Following the inspection, the segments of the tunnel may need future construction activity to repair any problems found.
The work area will be enclosed to mark the project area and for safety reasons. In addition, work will include the excavation and removal of the shaft cover and other materials located in the structure vault. If a planned temporary water service shut-off is necessary, affected residents will be notified 48 hours in advance.
