Pennsylvania Ave SE Storm Sewer Improvements
DC WASA will be performing storm sewer improvements within the Penn-Branch neighborhood to repair aged storm sewer infrastructure.
See complete fact sheet on the Pennsylvania Avenue, SE Storm Sewer Improvements (PDF 1.9 mb) .
Project Will Include
DC WASA will be replacing a partially collapsed storm sewer underneath Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. The sewer crosses Pennsylvania Avenue, SE between Texas Avenue, SE and 38th Street, SE and drains into Fort Circle Park, which is owned by the National Park Service.
DC WASA will replace 200 feet of sewer using a tunneling method that does not require any excavation on Pennsylvania Avenue. However, the contractors will need to access the tunnel in the Church of Jesus Christ Parking Lot and inside Fort Circle Park National Park. The work also includes the rehabilitation of two outfalls located inside National Park Service property. To limit disturbance inside the park, construction vehicles will use the recreational trail entrance at 38th Street, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and will restore the trail to the condition prior to construction. This work will alleviate flooding for properties located on Pennsylvania Avenue, east of Texas Avenue.
