What We Do
Pope Branch Sewer Rehabilitation
The DC Water and Sewer Authority is designing major sewer rehabilitation and stream restoration work that centers around Pope Branch, a stream located in Pope Branch Park, SE that is a tributary to the Anacostia River.
Over $4 million will be invested in this project which will restore Pope Branch stream to a natural, sustainable waterway, while replacing aged sewage infrastructure that currently runs parallel to the stream.
Repairs will take place the length of Pope Branch, from Ft. Davis Drive to the east and to I-295 to the west.

DC WASA Work Scope Will Include
- 1,600 feet of sewer rehabilitation
- 1,400 feet sewer installation with the majority by trenchless methods
- Replacement / Rehabilitation of 30 sewer manholes
- Replacement / Rehabilitation of four storm sewer outfalls and headwalls
Stream Restoration work will stabilize the stream channel for the 4,200 feet of stream located inside the park. This will be accomplished by using natural materials with as little park disruption as possible.
